Peace and democracy for Taiwan—and for the world!

“Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world…”—Universal Declaration of Human Rights, United Nations

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.”—Johann von Goethe

Welcome to the Formosan Association for Public Affairs Young Professional Group. We promote international recognition of Taiwan’s right to peace, democracy, and self-determination through education and lobbying.

At the moment, Taiwan is facing an international crisis. China, a communist dictatorship, has aimed more than 1000 missiles at this beautiful island in an effort to intimidate its 23 million citizens, who live in a peaceful and democratic society. The rationale? China falsely insists that Taiwan belongs to “the Mainland.” Through military threat and diplomatic isolation, China seeks to annex its neighbor, forcing the Taiwanese to forsake their identity, their nationality, and their freedom.

The international community, lured by China’s economic opportunity and cowed by its ever-growing military, has warned Taiwan not to “provoke” its belligerent neighbor. Taiwan is barred from memberhood in international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization—all because of China’s unjust interference. By appeasing China’s communist dictatorship, the world hopes to preserve peace and stability in East Asia.

We believe that lasting peace can be earned in only one way: by supporting democracy and freedom for all people. Sacrificing the rights of 23 million Taiwanese to China’s immoral ambitions is not the answer.

Therefore, we urge you to support a nation who has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to peace and democracy—concepts that are foreign to the Communist Party in China. We urge you to support our nation, Taiwan.
