Some of you probably were not born when FAPA was established in 1982 and started to advocate democracy and human rights for the people of Taiwan. Five years after FAPA was founded, the then KMT government abolished the longest martial law in the world's history. Since, FAPA’s advocacy work on Capitol Hill has focused on promoting Taiwan’s international participation, Taiwan’s security, the right of self-determination for the people of Taiwan and the overall advancement of the US-Taiwan relationship.
Well, none of us in FAPA YPG has had a chance to join FAPA’s early noble fight in promoting Taiwan’s democracy. There is, however, a chance to celebrate FAPA’s achievements in Taipei on Sunday, March 4. Prominent leaders such as President Chen and former President Lee will attend the celebration!
It will be an exciting time to be in Taiwan, not only to take part in this celebration, but also to witness other important events happening around the same time, including 2-28 60th commemoration and probably the warm-up of Taiwan’s 2008 presidential campaign!
