During the past twenty years, Taiwan has emerged as an unshakable pillar of democracy in Asia. Oppressed nations everywhere look to Taiwan for the inner strength to rise up and break free of the bonds of dictatorship, so that they might enter into a bright new era of democracy, peace, and prosperity. Next March, the Taiwanese people will celebrate their victory in embracing democracy by holding the 4th direct presidential elections.
Description
FAPA YPG’s 2008 Presidential Election Tour seeks to unite supporters of Taiwan on both sides of the Pacific Ocean. College students, young professionals, and other seasoned advocates of all generations are invited to apply. FAPA will select approximately 20 people to participate in a 12-day election tour of Taiwan, which will include stops in northern, central, and southern regions. The tour will include meetings with high-ranking officials, scholars, and community leaders; participation in electoral events; and will culminate in a two-day post-election conference post-election round-table discussion addressing Taiwan’s future.
Expenses
Each participant is expected to cover the cost of round-trip airfare to Taiwan ($1000–$1500) and a registration fee of $500 $300 (for double occupancy in a hotel) or $550 (for single occupancy in a hotel), which will cover housing, transportation within Taiwan, and some meals. If you are staying with relatives or friends in Taipei and do not need the hotel accommodation, the registration fees will be $250 $125. Registration fees are due on Sunday, February 17. See the downloadable application for more details. Financial aid may be granted, but participants are expected to approach their local FAPA chapters and other related organizations for funding. Participants will stay in mid-range hotels located throughout Taiwan.
Deadline
Participants determined on a rolling basis. Complete the attached application and e-mail it to Iris Ho at FAPA Headquarters. The deadline to submit the application is midnight Sunday, January 19 Sunday, February 10. Final selection results will be announced on Friday, January 26 as soon as possible. Please be aware that the earlier one applies, the easier it will be to procure cheaper plane tickets. As noted above, registration fees are due on Sunday, February 17.
How to apply
